About

Provelopment builds, hosts and looks after websites for small businesses. The service is for a business that needs its first website, one whose existing site needs modernising, or one that would rather somebody else hosted, maintained and updated the site for them.

Who the service is for

Provelopment focuses on small businesses: a trade, a clinic, a shop, a professional practice, or a local service that needs to be findable and credible online. Sometimes there is no website yet; sometimes there is one that has been left behind — out of date, awkward to update, or no longer matching what the business has become.

If you would rather not think about the technical side at all, we can host the site, keep it current and make the changes you ask for.

What we do

We build new websites, rebuild existing ones, extend them as a business grows, and look after them afterwards — hosting, updates, changes and ongoing improvement.

How the sites are built

Every site is built on Provelopment Foundation, a free and open-source platform. It is public, it is licensed under Apache-2.0, and anyone may use it: a business, a developer or another agency can take it, set up a site on it and run that site without involving us.

Provelopment is the service provider on that platform. We supply the part that cannot be downloaded — designing, building, setting up and looking after a website for one particular business. Using Foundation does not require working with us.

What you keep

  • Your content, branding and site-specific setup — held with the site rather than trapped inside a website builder you cannot take anywhere.
  • The website itself — which can be run by you, or handed to another developer or provider.
  • The platform underneath it — Apache-2.0, usable with no commercial relationship with Provelopment, as the open-source page sets out.

Staying with Provelopment is a service choice, not a technical requirement, and nothing in the way the sites are built makes leaving difficult.

Where to go next

The service paths set out the kinds of website work we do, and how it works describes what happens from the first conversation to launch and beyond. The examples show sites running on the platform today. If you want to build a website business of your own, make your own business covers both routes.
